Unraced filly another for Oakgrove at 75,000gns

A COUPLE of hours after paying 115,000gns for the four-year-old Flag Day, John Deer added another young mare to his team at Oakgrove Stud when paying 75,000gns through Amanda Skiffington for one of Aqlaam's first book of mares, Zarkavean.

The unraced three-year-old comes from one of the Aga Khan's best families, boasting the great Petite Etoile as her fourthdam.

"The boss loves the pedigree with Petite Etoile in there and it is just a great family," said stud manager Tim Lane. "I've no idea what we'd put her to next year but we're pleased to get her.

"We've got 24 mares at the moment but the idea is to cut down to under 20 and be really commercial."

With around 50 lots to go the average was running at 13,685gns, compared to 12,630gns on this day 12 months ago although stillwell adrift of the 2006 record figure of 27,248gns.
