A FIRST Group winner for first-season sire Librettist emerged when the Richard Hannon-trained Libranno saw off a small but select field in Newmarket's Group 2 for juvenile colts and geldings.

A son of Danzig and dual Group 1 winner at four, Librettist missed his three-year-old season due to injury. He retired with a record of seven wins from ten starts.

Early signs are very encouraging for the Darley stallion, who has stood the last two seasons at their French stud, Haras du Logis, for €7,000. From 12 starters in Britain and Ireland to date, half have won.

Libranno failed to sell as a yearling, and was bought back by his breeder, in whose colours Libranno races, for 26,000gns. His dam, the Singspiel mare Annabelle Ja, won once from seven starts, in a 7f maiden at two.
