Osorio: Ambrogina became the first winner for the deceased stallion when scoring at Southwell on Tuesday
First winner for Osorio
ITALIAN Derby hero Osorio was represented by his first winner on Tuesday when Ambrogina won the 6f maiden at Southwell by a nose from Freddie's Girl. The Marco Botti-trained filly was getting off the mark at the fourth attempt.
Ambrogina was bred by Newsells Park Stud, who stood Osorio for two seasons prior to his premature death early last year. The son of Surumu won three races in the colours of Renata Jacobs during his time in Italy, of which a two-and-a-half length defeat of Private Charter in the Derby Italiano was the highlight.
Osorio's first crop, which were conceived at Gestut Rietberg in Germany, contained just 16 foals.
Ambrogina is the fourth foal out of Oh Bej Oh Bej - a Group 3 winner by Distinctly North - and a half-sister to two winners in Italy.
Oh Bej Oh Bej has a yearling colt by Osorio and is back in foal to him.
