TODAY'S Group 3 in Germany, the American Express Zukunfts-Rennen, went the way of Amaron, a Shamardal colt trained by Andreas Lowe.

Unfortunately, it was not a dream result for first-season sire Sir Percy - his representative Percy Jackson, although he was only beaten 3l by the winner, could only finish seventh. The Dennis Coakley-trained colt lost out on sixth spot and a share of the prize-money by just a nose.

Amaron became Shamardal's first juvenile European Group winner of 2011 having got the Derby Italiano (G2) victor Crackerjack King, the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial (G3) winner Dunboyne Express as well as the further German Group 3 winners Elle Shadow and Zazou earlier this season.

Shamardal has had four lifetime Group 1 winners - Racing Post Trophy winenr Casamento, the dual Classic winner in France Lope De Vega and Faint Perfume and Captain Sonador in Australia.

The Darley sire stood at £25,000 in 2008 when Amandalini, Amaron's dam was covered and at a career high of £50,000 this spring.

Amaron was bred by Genesis Green Stud and was sold at Tattersalls as a foal for 110,000gns where he was bought by Canirola Bloodstock. There were no buyers for him as a yearling at the ArqanaAugust sale when he was offered by Haras D'Etreham, instead he changed hands the following November at Tattersalls. He was bough then for 105,000gns by BBA Germany, having been consigned by Jamie Railton Bloodstock.
