Sea The Stars: the champion's first foals have been born

Alpine Rose produces Sea The Stars foal

SIR Anthony and Lady O'Reilly's Castlemartin Stud in County Kildare on Thursday saw the birth of the second foal by 2009's exceptional world champion Sea The Stars.

Prix Jean Romanet winner Alpine Rose - who also becomes a parent for the first time - produced a colt who has inherited her grey coat.

The foal was bredby a partnership including Lady O'Reilly, Lucien Orano of the Ecurie des Monceaux and Charles-Henri de Moussac of the Haras du Mezeray, who bought Alpine Rose for €550,000 at the 2008 Arqana December sale.

Castlemartin manager James Kelly said: "The foal is a nice, big, strong colt, very correct and with a beautiful head and a white star. He already has real presence."

Alpine Rose, a Linamix sister to Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner Fragrant Mix, had been due to foal on January 13. Her next mating will be with Sea The Stars' champion sire half-brother Galileo.

Kelly indicated that the foal would likely be sold, in line with his owners' policy of racing fillies and selling colts.
