Almanack is first winner for Derrinstown's Haatef

DERRINSTOWN Stud stallion Haatef became the latest first-season sire to get off the mark when his son, Almanack, took the opening 5f maiden at Dundalk on Friday.

The Tommy Stack-trained Almanack was sent off at 4-5 following his debut third over 5f at Dundalk earlier this month and justified his short price by returning to the scene to run out the easy winner.

Bred by Ed's Stud Ltd, he is the second winner out of Openness, a Grand Lodge mare from the family of Group 1-winning miler Balisada.

Almanack was purchased at Tattersalls as a foal for 17,000gns by Luke Barry and resold at the DBS Premier Sale for £40,000 to Cormac McCormack.

Haatef, a well-connected son of Danzig who won the Diadem Stakes for Kevin Prendergast, stands at Derrinstown Stud for €4,000.
