Alflora's What A Friend secures Grade 1 win

WHAT A FRIEND took advantage of a below-par Imperial Commander to land his sire Alflora a welcome Grade 1 win in theTotesport Bowl Chase at Aintree.

The seven-year-old, part-owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, was second to Denman in the Hennessy Gold Cup, but today provided him with the highlight of his career so far.

He is out of the mare Friendly Lady, by New Member, who bred four point-to-pointers before What A Friend, including Good Lord, his year-younger brother.

Her most recent foal to race, How’s My Friend by Karinga Bay, was pulled up on his debutin a bumper for Grant Cann, who once owned What A Friend.

Alflora stands at Shade Oak Stud for a fee of £3,000.
