The seven-year-old's trainer Paul Nicholls tried hard to retain the exciting novice chase prospect but ended up as underbidder at £110,000 to DBS representative Michael White, who signed in the name of trainer Jonjo O'Neill.

The Jackdaws Castle handler was not at the sale but, speaking by telephone, said: "He looks the part and I'd imagine he'll be going over fences. He's been bought by an existing owner in the yard and I'd say his price was a sign of the times, it's plenty of money but a bit more realistic."

Nicholls signed for five of the draft, headed by Aiteen Thirtythree at £90,000, while trainerKim Bailey, acting through agent Aiden Murphy, spent £75,000 on Tobeluckyenough, who was trained by Liam Burke for Findlay and Barber to win a point-to-point in March.

Findlay bought Nevada Royale for £10,000 and he will join Tim Pitt and race for a partnership including members of the Sangster family.
