Hearts Of Fire: a sister to the first Group 1 winner by Firebreak is catalogued as lot 928 at this week's Tattersalls October Sale

Hearts Of Fire hands Firebreak first Group 1

NEARLY seven months after becoming Firebreak's first winner, Hearts Of Fire successfully made the transition to Group 1 company when taking the Gran Criterium at San Siro on Sunday by a neck from Vale Of York.

Last month at Baden-Baden, the Pat Eddery-trained colt also became the first Group winner for his sire when taking the Group 3 Zukunfts-Rennen.

Hearts Of Fire, who was bred by Bearstone Stud, is one of only 36 first- crop two-year-olds by Firebreak, who stood the 2009 season for £3,000.

Firebreak was initially trained by Andrew Balding, for whom he won the Mill Reef Stakes. Subsequently sold to Godolphin for 525,000gns, the son of Charnwood Forest went on to become a high-class miler, with wins in the Hong Kong Mile and Challenge Stakes to his name.

Hearts Of Fire is the second foal out of AlexanderBallet, whose Firebreak yearling filly is catalogued as lot 928 in Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale this week.

Bearstone bred the daughter of Mind Games out of the Dayjur mare Dayville, whose eight other foals include the Listed-placed pair Day By Day and Thought Is Free.

Both Hearts Of Fire and Sunday's Premio Vittorio di Capua winner Gladiatorus descend from Chain Store, who is also the ancestress of Chain Fern, Heatseeker, Lord Shanakill and Al Bahathri.
