Second British winner for Medaglia d'Oro

IT was third time lucky at Yarmouth on Tuesday for Godolphin's Al Marmoom, who became Medaglia d'Oro's second winner in Britain and Ireland when comfortably taking the 1m maiden.

The 200,000gns two-year-old purchase is out of the unplaced Gone West mare Lady Laika, already the dam of four winners in the US including Healthy Addiction, winner of the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap. The daughter of Boston Harbor earned over $1m during her racing career.

Lady Laika has also produced the stakes-placed pair Arch Lady (Arch) and Langoureuse (Gilded Time). Her second dam is Cool Mood, granddam of the top-class pair Touch Gold and With Approval.

A total of 16 first crop winners, including two at stakes level, has seen Medaglia d'Oro seen reach fourth place on the US leading first-crop sires' list, which is highly encouraging given that the son of El Prado only made one start at two himself.

The triple Grade 1 winner covered 114 mares at a fee of $40,000 this season at Stonewall Farm in Kentucky.
