Eighth title for Adena
as leading US breeder
EARNINGS of $13,369,852 saw Adena Springs end the 2010 season as leading individual breeder in North America for the eighth consecutive year.
Frank Stronach's operation bred the winners of 506 races from 3,661 starts, among them Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes winner Stately Victor and triple Grade 2 scorer Bourbon Bay.
Brereton C. Jones, who owns Airdrie Stud in Kentucky, filled second thanks to the winners of 236 races and earnings of $6,545,265. They were headed by the Grade 1 winners Check The Label and No Such Word.
In third was Eugene Melnyk, who bred the winners of 232 races and $6,004,832.
Adena Springs and Jones also finished first and second on the leading list of breeders that includes partnerships: Adena Springs bred of the winners of 519 races and $13,638,355 while Jones was responsible for the winners of 293 races and $7,504,518.
