Aintree live: game win for son of Celebre

5.34 Old Vic, sire of emerging Grand National favourite and last year's winner Don't Push It, sires Listed mares' bumper winner Tempest River.

The five-year-old broke her maiden today but had run well to finish fourth in a Listed mares' bumper at Sandown.

She fetched €42,000 when offered from Boardsmill Stud as a yearling, though was unsold at Doncaster as a three-year-old at £15,000.

5.03 Coral Cup fourth Battle Group, by Beat Hollow is a winner steps up to 3m 1/2f in the penultimate race of the day. The Juddmonte-bred son of Beat Hollow was sold to Five Star International Bloodstock for 35,000gns as an unraced three-year-old at the Tattersalls July sale. He was unsold when reoffered at Brightwells' January Cheltenham sale with a highest bid of £65,000.

His dam, Cantanta by Top Ville, also produced top-class hurdler/chaser Upgrade, who won the Triumph Hurdle.

Beat Hollow is also the sire of Champion Bumper fifth Cinders And Ashes and is a brother to Boardsmill Stud stallion Court Cave.

4.25 Network's son Saint Are takes the Grade 1 John Smith's Sefton Novices' Hurdle. A son of Monsun. Network is really making a name for himself, thanks to Rubi Light, Rubi Ball, Sprinter Sacre et al.

The success of Network bodes well for other sons of Monsun standing as jumps sires, such as September Storm, Getaway, Schiaparelli and Arcadio.

3.56 Always Waining, who didn't get a run in the Grand National, takes a second successive John Smith's Topham Chase. The son of Unfuwain was bred for the Flat, and raced for Mark Johnston on the level. Johnston paid 9,000gns for him as a yearling at the Tattersalls December yearling sale.

His half-brother, Housemaster, was trained by Michael Bell to finish fourth in the Derby. Another half-brother, Mastermind, raced in the 2,000 Guineas and French Derby. He was bred by Barouche Stud.

3.14 A second straight French-bred winner, with Master Minded returning to form to land the John Smith's Melling Chase. The superb son of Nikos is out of Haute Tension, who raced twice winning once over hurdles as a four-year-old.

Five of her six foals to have raced have won, including Master Minded's brother Positive Thinking, a Listed winner and Group 2 runner-up over jumps in France.

2.42 Young French sire Saints Des Saints has already earned plenty of admirers and his seven-year-old son Quito De La Roque battles strongly to land the Grade 2 John Smith's Mildmay Novices' Chase.

The Colm Murphy-trained gelding could be the one to propel Saint Des Saints from up-and-coming jumps sire to proven top-class producer.

His only defeat in five starts over fences was when second to subsequent RSA Chase winner Bostons Angel in the Grade 1 Fort Leney Chaseat Leopardstown.

Having won a point-to-point, he finished second on his first hurdle run - with Bostons Angl in third.

2.08 Topolski, a son of Coolmore sire and Arc winner Peintre Celebre, battles gamely to land the Grade 2 John Smith's Top Novices Hurdle.

Trained by David Arbuthnot, Topolski was a fair Flat handicapper, with his latest win coming off a mark of 86 at Chester. Jockey Daryl Jacob says: "He's like a terrier. He's got a real good turn of foot."

Peinture Celebre is not normally associated with jumpers, but has produced Grade 1 juvenile hurdler winner Pittoni and Sunspot, who was third in a Group 1 hurdle at Auteuil.

Incidentally, Pittoni's half-sister Keyaza runs in the bumper today. They are out of Yorkshire Oaks winner Key Change.
