Across-the-card double for freshman Sixties Icon

BREAKTHROUGH first-season sire Sixties Icon kept the bandwagon rolling on Saturday with an across-the-card double from two runners.

Yorkshire Icon became the stallion's seventh individual winner when getting off the mark at the fifth attempt in a 7½f maiden at Beverley.

Yorkshire Icon is the first of Sixties Icon's winners not to be trained by his chief supporter Mick Channon, who has saddled three of the sire's runners to gain black type including Chilworth Icon to win the Group 3 Premio Primi Passi.

Channon does have a strong bond with the Ann Duffield-trained Yorkshire Icon, though: he jointly bred the colt out of the Lujain mare Evanesce, who he saddled to win a Salisbury maiden.

Yorkshire Icon is campaigned by Middleham Park Racing after being bought as a foal for 4,000gns and resold to Duffield for £5,500 as a yearling.

Channon saddled Sixties Icon's other winner on Saturday, Rated, who won a 7f nursery at Haydock. Channon also bred Rated, who broke his maiden in April, out of the winning Aragon mare Arasong.

Sixties Icon stands at Norman Court Stud in Wiltshire and his fee this year was £4,500.
