Acclamation sires first stakes winner of 2012

HITCHENS, ason of Acclamation, was produced at exactly the right moment to beat Krypton Factor by a short-head in the 6f Group 3 Al Shindagha Sprint at Meydan.

David Baron's charge tackled the Tapeta surface for the first time last month when finishing second over course and distance and went one better to land his second Group 3.

This is more good news for Rathbarry Stud's high profile inmate Acclamation, who after having an excellent 2011 with six individual stakes winners including Group 2 wins for Harbour Watch and Lilbourne Lad can now add a first Group winner on an artificial surface to his portfolio.

Hitchens, who was bought by his trainer for 40,000gns at the Tattersalls horses in training sale in 2008, is the sixth foal of the two-year-old winner Royal Fizz . She has produced two other winners including the Listed-placed performer Grand Marque.

Acclamation was as popular as ever last season covering 174 mares. This year he will command a fee of €35,000.
