St Nicholas Abbey: one of 25 Group/Grade 1 winners by the late Montjeu

Abbey caps diamond afternoon for Montjeu

Epsom: Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (Group 1), 1m4f

ST NICHOLAS ABBEY (5 h Montjeu - Leaping Water by Sure Blade)

Bred by Barton Bloodstock and Villiers Syndicate in Ireland

St Nicholas Abbey provides yet another reminder of the dominance of the Sadler´s Wells sire line in the middle-distance division. He is the sixth successive Coronation Cup winner by Sadler´s Wells or his sons and the fourth in that period for Montjeu, after Scorpion and Fame And Glory. The five-year-old is one of 25 Group/Grade 1 winners for his late sire.

Out of an unraced mare who was sold to G. O'Callaghan for just 3,200gns at the 1993 Tattersalls July Sale, St Nicholas Abbey is a half-brother to three winners including Grammarian, a 1m4f Grade 2 winner in America. Leaping Water has undergone several pedigree updates since her meagre sale; she is now a half-sister to three Group 1 winners in Aristotle, winner of the Racing Post Trophy, Ballingarry, a Group 1 winner over 1m2f-1m4f, and top miler Starborough. Aristotle and Ballingarry are both by Sadler´s Wells.

Haydock: Timeform Jury Stakes (Group 3), 3yo, 7f

PASTORAL PLAYER (5 g Pastoral Pursuits - Copy-Cat by Lion Cavern)

Bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud and Pigeon House Stud in Britain

Pastoral Player becomes the second Group winner from four crops of racing age by the National Stud's Pastoral Pursuits, who won the 2005 July Cup in the colours of the Pursuits Partnership for Hughie Morrison. Prior to Pastoral Player, the stallion's best representative was Summer Stakes winner Rose Blossom.

Pastoral Player's dam, Copy-Cat, failed to trouble the judge in six starts but she has been a fine servant to her co-owners Whitsbury Manor Stud and Pigeon House Stud; each of her six runners have won including the Listed-placed Copywriter (by Efisio) and three-year-old Chil The Kite (by Notnowcato), who looked promising when winning at Goodwood for Hughie Morrison last season.

Copy-Cat is a half-sister to the Group 3-winning sprinter and former Whitsbury Manor sire Averti.

Haydock: Grosvenor Casinos Pinnacle Stakes (Group 3), 1m4f, 4yo+

SHIMMERING SURF (5 m Danehill Dancer - Sun On The Sea by Bering)

Bred by Cathal Ryan in Ireland

Although best over 6-7f himself, Coolmore's Danehill Dancer has proven a most versatile sire, capable of getting speedy sorts like himself - Choisir springs to mind, Classic milers such as Again, Mastercraftsman and Speciosa, but also high-class middle-distance performers including Dancing Rain, Planteur and now Shimmering Surf.

Shimmering Surf gets a stamina dose form her dam Sun On The Sea, who is by Prix du Jockey Club winner Bering and won the Listed Swettenham Stud Fillies' Trial Stakes over 1m2f before finishing fourth in the Ribblesdale Stakes. Sun On The Sea is in turn out of Shimmer, runner-up in the Prix de Psyche over 1m2f.
