EDEN'S MOON (f Malibu Moon - Eden's Causeway by Giant's Causeway)

Bred by Bridlewood Farm

EDEN'S Moon served notice that she is on her way to the Kentucky Oaks for Bob Baffert, crossing under the wire 3 1/4 lengths ahead of favourite Reneesgotzip.

The Florida-bred is the eighth - and seventh female - Grade 1 winner by Spendthrift Farm's flagship sire Malibu Moon, who rose from humble beginnings in Maryland to become one of Kentucky's most respected sires. The son of A P Indy won one of two starts and was afforded a berth at Country Life Farm in Maryland primarily due to his excellent pedigree - he is out of 1994 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Macoumba.

Malibu Moon wasted little time in making an impact at stud, producing champion two-year-old colt Declan's Moon in his second crop. Today, the 15-year-old stands at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky for $70,000.

The dearest filly to sell at last year's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-year-olds in Training Sale when knocked down to Bob Baffert on behalf of Kaleem Shah for $390,000, Eden's Moon is the third Grade 1 winner produced by a daughter of Giant's Causeway following Planteur and Evening Jewel. The Ashford Stud stallion is also the damsire of fellow Kentucky Classic hopeful El Padrino, winner of last week's Grade 3 Risen Star Stakes.

Eden's Moon hails from a famous Bridlewood family being the second foal out of Eden's Causeway, a half-sister to Grade 1 winners Paradise Creek (also a champion), Forbidden Apple and Wild Event. She is a also a half-sister to the dam of Brian Meehan's Champion Stakes winner David Junior.

RON THE GREEK (5 h Full Mandate - Flambe' by Fortunate Prospect)

Bred by Jack T. Hammer

ONE-TIME Classic hopeful Ron The Greek broke through at Grade 1 level in impressive style for Bill Mott, drawing away to score by 3 1/2 lengths over Setsuko.

Ron The Greek is the first Grade 1 winner and only Graded stakes winner from six crops of racing age by Full Mandate, a regally-bred son of A P Indy who stands at Hartley/De Renzo Stallions in Florida for $2,500. The minor stakes winner, who was a $3.2 million yearling, is also the sire of Listed winner Thoroughly.

A half-brother to the Listed-placed sprinter Max Speed, Ron The Greek is out of a winning half-sister to the dam of 2009 Kentucky Derby third Musket Man.
