Lope De Vega completes the French Guineas-Derby double at Chantilly

Lope De Vega joins Ballylinch stallion roster

THIS year's French Guineas and Derby hero Lope De Vega has been sold to stand at Ballylinch Stud in County Kilkenny for an initial fee of €15,000.

The Gestüt Ammerland homebred from the first crop of Shamardal is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Bal De La Rose out of Prix Marcel Boussac third Lady Vettori.

A first run on soft ground and a wide draw in stall 20 did not prevent Lope De Vega completing the Classic double in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly, where he finished three lengths clear of Planteur.

Ballylinch Stud manager John O'Connor said: "He is just the kind of horse we like to stand: a very high-class two-year-old who trained on to win Classics at 1m and 10f, just like his sire Shamardal."

He joins Intense Focus, Lawman, King's Theatre and Soviet Star on the Ballylinch roster, following last week's news that Whipper will be transferred to Haras Du Mezeray.
