€70,000 Montjeu filly heads solid day at BBAG

A DAUGHTER of the late Montjeu dominated the BBAG Spring Horses in Training Sale on Friday on a day which saw reasonable increases recorded across-the-board.

Of the 114 horses offered, 71 - 62 per cent - were sold for a total of €626,600, an increase of nearly a third from 2011. The average rose 11 per cent to €8,825 while the median increased nine per cent to €8,055.

The sale-topping daughter of Montjeu, a half-sister to dual Grade 2 heroine Attima out of Guarded, was snapped up by agent Tina Rau on behalf of an undisclosed client for €70,000. Offered by MM Racing, Training and Breeding, she turned a major profit on the €17,000 paid for her by Berlin Brandenberg Bloodstock at last year's Arqana October Sale.

Andreas Lowe is set to take charge of the day's second dearest lot, a daughter of Big Shuffle who was purchased by the trainer for €58,000. Consigned by GTM GmbH, she is out of Rakayeb, a Gone West daughter of 1996 Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Matiya.
