€46,000 joint-top lots at Osarus yearling sale

A COLT and a filly shared top lot honours when both making €46,000 at Thursday's Osarus yearling sale at La Teste de Buch in the south west of France.

Marc-Antoine Berghgracht's MAB Agency paid the sum for a filly by Prix Jean Prat winner and sophomore sire Stormy River whose third dam is Yorkshire Oaks winner Bint Pasha.

The price was equalled by Fretless Limited, who made the winning bid on a colt by Prix d'Ispahan winner Never On Sunday's sire Sunday Break, out of the Listed-placed Take Risks mare Popee.

MAB Agency and Fretless Limited accounted for the top five lots. Berghgracht also bought a first-crop daughter of Soldier Of Fortune for €40,000, while Fretless bought a first-crop Doctor Dino colt for €42,000 and a Redback colt for €38,000.

British and Irish buyers active at the sale included Con Marnane, who signed for a €16,000 Dyhim Diamond filly and a €12,000 Gold Away colt, and Richard Venn, who bought a €15,000 Soldier Of Fortune colt and a €6,000 Zambezi Sun colt.

The sale saw 128 lots out of 152 offered sold for a clearance rate of 84 per cent, which shot up from 67 per cent last year.

The average price rose by 12 per cent to €12,176 while the turnover increased by 56 per cent to €1,610,000.
