Weblog: The story of a racehorse
Not yet sunshine: Born To Run is not quite ready to run
PICTURE:Richard GriffithsWill York debutante Bigalo's be Born To Run?
IT'S always of interest when an unraced two-year-old filly makes her debut in a Listed race - it's especially of interest for the purpose of this blog when that filly is a full-sister to our adopted foal, Born To Run.
Let's be honest, it's a slightly better name than tomorrow's York runner Bigalo's Vera B, whose owner Ian Buckley gives all his horses the Bigalo's moniker.
It's a big ask to make your racecourse debut in such a race and the vibes when we spoke to the trainer, Lawrence Mullaney, on Sunday echoed that sentiment. Sometimes an owner is keen to have a runner at a certain meeting, for whatever reason, and that is likely to be the case here.
The early word from our newsdesk, who are previewing the race in tomorrow's paper, is that Jamie Osborne is especially keen on Fifth Avenue, a daughter of Avonbridge who won at Bath last time out.
Equally, Gay Kelleway is hopeful that Primo Lady, the first ever juvenile to land a Racing Post Yearling Bonus, can return to winning ways after "never getting competitive" when third to Julius Geezer in the Lily Agnes Stakes at Chester last time out. Not a bad run, all the same.
Another to watch is Breedj, third on her only start at Lingfield and from last year's winning Clive Brittain stable. Misheer, of course, went on to win the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket.
Wow! Could Bigalo's Vera B be that good? Probably best not to get too carried away just yet. But I personally cannot wait to see how she gets on.
And her little sister? She'll be oblivious to the excitement, whizzing around in a paddock. Her time will come soon enough.
